Abstract:
Wound care and treatment of skin diseases are one of the most important challenges in healthcare. Most traditional wound dressings and treatment methods cannot meet the needs of the treatment system. Traditional dressing treatment methods cannot satisfy the requirements, such as the need for medicine with the right dose in the wound site, sufficient moisture, controlled drug release, and control of secretions in the wound site. Polysaccharide-based nanocomposites (PNCs) have attracted interest in treating diseases and wound care. Polysaccharides are biopolymers produced by plants, animals, and bacteria, so they are abundant. PNCs have very unique properties such as effective control of the growth of microorganisms, local release of drugs, delivery of appropriate doses of drugs at the site, reduction of side effects, high biocompatibility and biodegradability, and creation of conditions for cell proliferation and angiogenesis. These functional and structural features of PNCs accelerate the healing process and facilitate treatment management. This study has focused on the development of effective methods and techniques to prepare PNCs, the study of various structures of PNCs, and their role in improving and treating skin wounds and diseases. Also, the conducted clinical research and commercial platforms in wound healing and transdermal disease treatment are reviewed.
