New infrared (IR) spectroscopy techniques, including Optical Photothermal Infrared Spectroscopy (O-PTIR) and Scattering-Type Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscopy (sSNOM), successfully map mollusk shell organic components. These non-destructive methods reveal intricate biomineral structures at high resolution.
