Insights
Eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) can lead to rare cerebral infarctions, often caused by intraventricular thrombi. Histologic analysis of a cerebral thrombus confirmed this link, highlighting the need for vigilant monitoring in EM patients.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Neurology
- Pathology
Background:
- Eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) is an inflammatory heart condition.
- Cerebral infarction is a rare but severe complication of EM.
- The precise mechanism linking EM to cerebral infarction requires further elucidation.
Observation:
- A case study of EM complicated by cerebral infarction is presented.
- Histologic examination of a cerebral thrombus was performed.
- The thrombus was identified as the cause of cerebral infarction.
Findings:
- Intraventricular thrombus formation is the primary cause of cerebral infarction in EM.
- Histologic findings confirmed the embolic origin of the cerebral infarction.
Implications:
- Early detection and management of intraventricular thrombi are crucial in EM patients.
- Close monitoring for thromboembolic events is recommended for individuals with EM.
- This case underscores the importance of understanding the embolic potential in EM.
Abstract:
Cerebral infarction in patients with eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) is a rare but serious complication. Although the major cause is the presence of intraventricular thrombus, the details remain unexplored. We illustrate a case of EM complicated by cerebral infarction, and we ascertained the cause through histologic findings in a cerebral thrombus. Careful follow-up should be considered, to monitor for the presence of intraventricular thrombus.
