  • Studied two independent populations in China (2063 and 1005 SD cases).
  • Stratified SD cases by age groups to analyze key triggers.
  • Utilized Student's t-test for analyzing continuous variables.

Main Results:

  • Pain was the leading trigger for SD (43%), followed by surgery (29%), fever (20%), emotion (14%), and alcohol (8%).
  • Cardiovascular diseases were the leading cause of SD in most age groups, except for children ≤3 years (respiratory diseases).
  • Up to 4% of coronary artery disease-related SD occurred in individuals under 30 years.

Conclusions:

  • Pain, surgery, fever, emotion, and alcohol are identified as the primary triggers for SD.
  • Findings suggest targeted interventions, including pain control, fever suppression, and alcohol abstinence, can help prevent SD.
