Purpose:
To explore the potential category characteristics of nurses' sense of meaning in life, and analyze the influencing factors of different categories and their relationship with gratitude.
Methods:
A total of 2023 nurses from 6 hospitals in Anhui Province of China were investigated by the Meaning in Life Scale and Gratitude Questionnaire, and analyzed statistically by potential profile analysis, univariate analysis, and multiple logistic regression analysis.
Results:
The potential categories of nurses' meaning in life could be divided into the moderate seeking-low presence of meaning in life group (18.9 %), high seeking-moderate presence of meaning in life group (71.3 %), and low seeking-high presence of meaning in life group (9.7 %). Influencing factors included marital status, history of psychological illness, and gratitude (p < .05).
Conclusion:
Nurses' meaning in life is at a medium to high level, with distinct classification characteristics. Nursing managers should pay special attention to nurses in specific situations, providing more opportunities for them to seek meaning in life. Additionally, they should promote gratitude and explore strategies that integrate gratitude into clinical practice.
