Sarcoma, ex pleomorphic adenoma of parotid gland: A rare entity

Sarcomas arising in a parotid gland is an uncommon occurrence and a sarcomatous transformation in a recurring pleomorphic adenoma is even rare. Diagnosis of salivary gland tumors has proven to be challenging. Pleomorphic adenomas (PA) are the most commonly diagnosed tumors of the salivary gland and a malignant transformation in preexisting or recurring ones is even thinner on the ground. Malignant transformations in a pleomorphic adenoma can occur in carcinomas, carcinosarcomas, or sarcomas. We are sharing an interesting case of a 68-year-old male with a parotid region swelling with a history of recurring pleomorphic adenomas. There was seen a sarcomatous transformation in pleomorphic adenoma which was proven on IHC. A correlation among cytopathology, histopathology, and previous clinical history is been tendered in our case report.
