Kidney Transplant II: Surgical Procedure

Preoperative ManagementThe primary goals of preoperative management in kidney transplantation are to optimize the patient’s metabolic state and prepare them for surgery through diet adjustments, necessary dialysis, and tailored medical treatment. This phase also involves comprehensive infection screening and patient education about the surgical procedure and postoperative care to improve outcomes and adherence.Medical ManagementA comprehensive evaluation is required for both the living donor...

Area of Science:

  • Minimally Invasive Surgery
  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Robotic Surgery

Background:

  • Robotic platforms offer solutions to challenges in laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
  • The BORNS Simphoni Robotic System is evaluated for clinical application.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the safety and feasibility of the BORNS Simphoni Robotic System for bariatric procedures.
  • To analyze clinical outcomes of robot-assisted sleeve gastrectomy.

Main Methods:

  • Pilot study involving seven severely obese patients undergoing robot-assisted sleeve gastrectomy.
  • Data collected included BMI, comorbidities, operative time, blood loss, and postoperative stay.

Main Results:

  • All patients completed the procedure successfully without conversion.
  • Mean operative time was 100.6 min, with minimal blood loss (11.57 ml).
  • Significant excess weight loss (84.9% at 12 months) and comorbidity resolution were observed.

Conclusions:

  • The BORNS Simphoni Robotic System is safe and feasible for bariatric surgery.
  • Clinical outcomes are comparable to published data for sleeve gastrectomy.
