Lipid Profile in Fitness-for-Work Assessment According to Job Sector in an Occupational Health Clinic in Peru

Objective:
The aim of the study was to describe the differences in lipid profiles and other factors associated with fitness-for work assessments in workers in Peru according to job sector.
Methodology:
This was an analytical cross-sectional study with secondary data analysis in an Occupational Health Clinic. The quantitative measures of the lipid profile (total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides) were analyzed descriptively and analytically compared between job sectors and other variables.
Results:
Among 63,940 medical registries, differences in all 5 indicators were significant in workers in the construction sector (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol P = 0.002, all other indicators P < 0.001), and workers in the other sectors had three to four significant indicators. Among the adjustment variables, there were differences between groups divided according to sex, age and type of preoccupational examination.
Conclusions:
Lipid profile indicators were found to vary among workers according to job sector, sex, and age.
