Histological Evaluation of Tendon-Bone Interface After Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Case Report

Case:
A 43-year-old woman experienced a posterior cruciate ligament injury. Posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (PCLR) was performed using autologous hamstring tendons, thus creating a bisocket femoral tunnel and a tibial tunnel. Total knee arthroplasty was required 9 years after PCLR. In both the femoral and tibial tunnels, chondral metaplasia of the tendon graft (TG) was observed on the tension side at the intra-articular apertures, and Sharpey-like fibers (SFs), connecting the TG to the lamellar bone were identified in deeper areas.
Conclusion:
Tendon-bone interface healing can regenerate chondral metaplasia and SF in both the femoral and tibial tunnels after PCLR.
