Background:
This is the age of adolescence where lifestyle habits as well as resilience are formed, which in turn determine long-term health. Adolescence is an age of alarming increase in obesity among this age group, and some effective intervention is needed for this group. Community empowerment sessions by nurses have shown potential for educating adolescents in healthy lifestyle changes.
Methods:
This is a quasi-experimental study measuring 120 obese late adolescents for four weeks at a college in Chennai. It consisted of the groups experimental and control. Data collection tool was a knowledge questionnaire and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) while SPSS was used for its analysis.
Results:
The experimental group showed significant improvement, the knowledge scores from 30.10% to 71.10%, and the resilience scores from 47.40% to 76.60%. Correlation of the demographic variable, age, and parental education was related to outcomes.
Conclusion:
Nurse-led sessions are an effective enhancement of knowledge and resilience in the obese adolescent. This forms a crucial public health strategy. Future studies should involve long-term impacts and modification of these interventions.
