    Background:

    • Serum progesterone is typically considered a female reproductive hormone.
    • Its role in male reproductive health and infertility is less understood.
    • Elevated progesterone levels have been anecdotally linked to impaired spermatogenesis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate serum progesterone levels in men presenting with infertility.
    • To compare progesterone levels across different semen analysis classifications (azoospermia, oligozoospermia, teratozoospermia, asthenozoospermia) against normozoospermic controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Serum progesterone was measured in 455 men attending an infertility clinic.
    • Patients were categorized based on semen analysis results: normozoospermic, azoospermic, oligozoospermic, teratozoospermic, and asthenozoospermic.
    • Statistical comparisons were made between the groups.

    Main Results:

    • No significant differences in serum progesterone levels were observed between normozoospermic men and patients with overall impaired semen quality.
