Iatrogenic vascular injury from peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement caused a rare arterial bleed. Minimally invasive coil embolization by interventional radiology successfully treated the complication.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
- Medical Device Complications
Background:
- Iatrogenic vascular injuries are infrequent but serious complications during peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement.
- These injuries can manifest as pseudoaneurysms or hematomas, potentially leading to significant morbidity.
