Multimodal analysis in discrimination between glioma grade 2 and 3 on conventional magnetic resonance imaging

Purpose:
This study aims to evaluate the value of multimodal analysis in differentiating between glioma grade 2 and grade 3 tumours on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Materials And Methods:
In the present of a retrospective study, 102 glioma patients underwent brain contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). All cases were pathologically validated as the grade 2 and grade 3 gliomas. Three models were conducted: qualitative, quantitative, and combined qualitative and quantitative. We compared these models using the p-value, -2 Log-likelihood, R-square, and accuracy.
Result:
This study included 102 patients with 49 grade 2 gliomas and 53 grade 3 gliomas. Necrosis and haemorrhage are two qualitative values which showed significant differences between these two entities (p=0.000). ADCmin and T1Cmax are two quantitative values which demonstrated significant differences between these two entities (p=0.000). Combined qualitative and quantitative models performed best with p-value, -2 Log-likelihood, R-square, and accuracy of 0.171, 47.002, 0.804, and 88.2, retrospectively.
Conclusion:
Grading of gliomas on conventional MRI using multimodal analysis has high-value discrimination between glioma grade 2 and grade 3. Age, necrosis, haemorrhage, and T1Cmax are the four most important values in the combined model.
