Summary

This study reveals that higher Galectin-4 (Gal-4) levels increase the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and proliferative DR (PDR). Galectin-3 (Gal-3) and Galectin-3 binding protein are linked to severe non-proliferative DR (SNPDR), while Galectin-9 (Gal-9) shows a decreased risk.
