Abstract:
Pediatric gastric and colorectal carcinomas (GC/CRCs) are rare with no standardized treatment. We retrospectively reviewed 15 patients (≤18 years) diagnosed with GC (n = 4) and CRC (n = 11) between 2007 and 2023. Median age was 17.2 years, and 60% were female. Abdominal pain was the most common symptom. Metastasis was observed in 53% at diagnosis. Eight patients underwent surgery; 13 received chemotherapy. Of 12 tested, 53% had a cancer predisposition syndrome and 67% had a positive family history of cancer. At last follow-up, 47% had died. Our data highlight the rarity, advanced stage, and poor outcomes of pediatric GC/CRC, emphasizing the need for early detection and genetic screening.
