Summary

Chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR-1) is found in human aorta smooth muscle cells. Its expression did not differ between aortic dissection and aneurysm cases in this study.

Background:

  • Chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR-1) binds chemerin and influences immune cell chemotaxis.
  • CMKLR-1 has been implicated in vascular remodeling associated with inflammation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate CMKLR-1 expression in human aorta samples.
  • To determine CMKLR-1 distribution across aortic cell types.
  • To assess the association of CMKLR-1 expression with aortic dissection and aneurysms.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemical staining for CMKLR-1 was performed on 62 human aorta samples.
  • Samples were from patients with aortic dissection (n=27) or aneurysm/dilatation (n=35).
  • Expression was analyzed in relation to cell types and clinical/histomorphological data.

Main Results:

  • CMKLR-1 expression was primarily localized to smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the aortic media.
  • Limited staining was observed in vasa vasorum; rare in lymphocytes, macrophages, and endothelia.
  • No significant differences in CMKLR-1 expression were found between dissection and aneurysm groups or with clinical data.

Conclusions:

  • CMKLR-1 is present in the aortic media, particularly within SMCs.
  • CMKLR-1 expression levels did not differentiate between aortic dissection and aneurysms in this cohort.
  • Further research may clarify CMKLR-1's specific role in aortic pathologies.
