Interaction of Indian Culture and Ayurveda with Modern Medicine

This review examines the interaction of the ancient Ayurvedic system and Indian culture with modern medicine. The dynamics of these interactions are complex, as each interacting entity influences the thought processes and actions of a sick person seeking medical assistance. Although these factors are often contradictory and coercive among each other, a few solutions are suggested to harmonize the management of a sick person in a manner that heals without a painful or unpleasant assault on his/her beliefs and ideas. Such conciliatory approaches need to be developed by leaders of modern medical science and humanities.
