Development and Validation of the Scale of Violence Perceived by Nursing Students in Clinical Placements

Background and Purpose: Violence against nursing students in the clinical field has a great impact on learning. In Chile, there is no validated instrument to measure the violence perceived by nursing students during their training. The reliability of a Perceived Violence Scale for nursing students in clinical practice was validated and analyzed. Methods: This instrumental research designed the scale and subjected it to prima facie validation with 5 experts and content validation with 42 expert judges. A pilot test was conducted with 100 students, and reliability was assessed by using the ordinal alpha coefficient. Results: The scale demonstrated high item relevance and clarity (Aiken's V > .75, LI >.70) and outstanding internal consistency (ordinal alpha of .959; 95% confidence interval [0.947, 0.970]). Conclusions: The rigorous validation process confirms the instrument's efficacy to measure perceived violence in clinical nursing practices.
