    • Meningitis was the predominant clinical presentation (85%), with a case-fatality rate of 4%.
    • Infections were mainly associated with pig or pork exposure, including consumption of undercooked meat; Argentina reported a disproportionately high number of cases.

    Conclusions:

    • Streptococcus suis represents an emerging zoonotic threat in South America.
    • Consistent and enhanced regional surveillance for Streptococcus suis is urgently needed to manage and prevent further spread.
