Temporomandibular joint ankylosis: A case report

Abstract:
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is a fibrous or fibro-osseous fusion between the mandibular condyle and the temporal fossa, leading to restricted movement and impaired jaw function. Advanced imaging techniques such as cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) provide essential insights that guide diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This article reports a rare clinical case of TMJ ankylosis in a 5-year-old pediatric patient, presenting with severely restricted mouth opening. The patient underwent surgery to remove the ankylotic block, followed by postoperative physiotherapy. The overall outcome was successful, with significant improvement in the mandibular range of motion.
