The Application of European Policies on Electronic Health in Greece: A Roadmap for an Interoperable Healthcare Future

Electronic Health (eHealth) represents the seamless integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into healthcare, enabling a dynamic, data-driven transformation that enhances efficiency, accessibility, and personalization. Interoperability remains the linchpin of this transformation, ensuring the secure and standardized exchange of data between health Information Systems. The real-time exchange of commonly coded health data overcomes the limitations of conventional medical approaches and facilitates evidence-based decision-making, ensuring the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems. In alignment with the European Union's vision for a Digital Single Market in cross-border healthcare, Greece has made significant progress, while persistent challenges highlight the need for a comprehensive national strategy based on the European Interoperability Framework standards.
