Summary

Trauma-focused (TF) treatments show promise for improving trauma and psychosis symptoms in patients with psychotic disorders. More research is needed to confirm benefits for anxiety, depression, and psychosocial functioning.

Background:

Most patients with psychosis have trauma histories, yet trauma-focused (TF) therapies are not standard care.
This review examines TF treatments for individuals with psychotic disorders and co-occurring trauma symptoms.

Conclusions:

Preliminary evidence supports TF treatment for trauma and psychosis symptoms in this population.
Further research is required to clarify effects on anxiety, depression, and psychosocial functioning.
Both individual and group TF treatments showed support, but the evidence base is nascent and faces methodological challenges.
