The accurate and meaningful assessment of Medicaid expenditures relative to survival rates among Medicaid-eligible extremely premature infants has received little scrutiny, despite its importance for improving outcomes. We have identified key problems that hindered such assessments using Texas Medicaid data, which may also be relevant to other states.
