FDG PET/CT in a Case of Pleural Schwannoma

Abstract:
Thoracic schwannomas commonly originate from the mediastinum. Pleural schwannoma is very rare. We describe FDG PET/CT findings in a case of benign pleural schwannoma. The tumor appeared as an ovoid soft tissue mass with homogeneous density in the left lateral costal pleura on CT and intense FDG uptake with SUV max of 5.7 on PET mimicking malignancy. This case indicates that schwannoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of pleural FDG-avid lesions.
