Extracellular uncoating of bacteriophage MS2

Bacteriophage MS2 uncoating, the process of shedding its protein shell, occurs extracellularly on the F-pilus, not at the cell surface. This discovery reveals a new pathway for MS2 infection of Escherichia coli.
