Abstract:
Prefrailty is a risk state that can progress to frailty and silent onset of functional decline. Older women are at higher risk and enormous burden of frailty compared with men. We aimed to evaluate the effects of a Nurse-led health coaching program for Prefrail Older Women's EmpoweRment (N-POWER). The study recruited 41 prefrail older women from a community senior center in Korea between March and April 2023 (21 and 20 women, respectively). The N-POWER comprised 12 weeks of exercise, nutrition education, and cognitive function training, delivered as once-weekly group sessions and as once-weekly individual telephone sessions. The prevalence of frailty, handgrip strength, physical function, depressive symptoms, and cognitive function scores in the experimental group improved significantly compared with those in the control group. The N-POWER is a potentially feasible intervention, aiding in the prevention of frailty and enhancing physical, emotional, and cognitive health in prefrail older women.
