A Case Report of a Successful Bilateral Lichtenstein Repair Using Elastic Tacks

Background:

• A 55-year-old male patient presented with a three-year history of bilateral inguinal hernias.
• The patient had significant comorbidities including hypertension, duodenal ulcer, chronic prostatitis, GERD, chronic esophagitis, and supraventricular tachycardia.

Observation:

• The Lichtenstein tension-free repair modification was chosen for bilateral repair in a single surgical session.
• The procedure utilized mesh implants secured with elastic absorbable tacks, aiming to reduce operative time and complications.

Findings:

• Successful bilateral inguinal hernioplasty was performed using the Lichtenstein technique in one operation.
• The patient experienced no postoperative complications, including neuralgia, seroma, foreign body sensation, or recurrence.
• The technique demonstrated reduced operative duration and favorable postoperative outcomes.

Implications:

• The Lichtenstein tension-free repair modification offers a viable and effective surgical option for bilateral inguinal hernias, even in patients with comorbidities.
• This approach may reduce surgical morbidity and improve patient recovery.
• Long-term follow-up (five years) is planned to monitor for recurrence and sustained outcomes.
