Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a rare dental issue. This case report shows successful conservative treatment using root canal therapy, MTA, and Ribbond reinforcement, preventing further damage.
Area of Science:
- Dentistry
- Endodontics
- Oral Surgery
Background:
- Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is an aggressive, rare dental condition often leading to tooth loss if not managed promptly.
- Early diagnosis and intervention are critical for successful management of ICR.
Observation:
- A 33-year-old male presented with a maxillary lateral incisor affected by ICR, diagnosed via clinical, radiographic, and CBCT evaluation.
- The resorption was classified as Heithersay class III with subcrestal involvement, indicating significant structural compromise.
Findings:
- Conservative treatment involved root canal therapy, surgical debridement, and restoration with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA).
- Structural reinforcement was achieved using Ribbond fiber-reinforced composite, a minimally invasive technique.
- A six-month follow-up revealed no resorption recurrence, with the patient remaining asymptomatic.
Implications:
- This case underscores the importance of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for accurate ICR diagnosis.
- The successful outcome highlights the efficacy of combining biocompatible materials like MTA with advanced reinforcement techniques.
- A multidisciplinary approach utilizing minimally invasive strategies is crucial for managing invasive cervical resorption effectively.
