    Summary

    Infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis showed a larger pylorus initially, which normalized by six months post-operation. Control infants experienced minor pyloric size increases over the first year.

    Background:

    • Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is a common congenital anomaly in infants.
    • Ultrasonography is a primary diagnostic tool for pyloric stenosis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To ultrasonically evaluate pyloric dimensions in infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis compared to controls.
    • To track changes in pyloric size during the first year of life.

    Main Methods:

    • Ultrasound examinations were performed on six infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis and 20 controls.
    • Measurements of total diameter and muscle wall thickness of the pylorus were taken on four occasions.
    • Statistical analysis compared measurements between groups and over time.

    Main Results:

    • Infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis initially presented with a significantly larger pylorus (P < 0.05).
    • Pyloric dimensions in the hypertrophic pyloric stenosis group normalized by six months post-operation.
