Summary

Intracranial saccular aneurysms and related treatments did not significantly alter optic nerve head microvasculature. Further research with larger cohorts is needed to confirm these findings in specific anatomical locations.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate microvascular alterations in the optic nerve head (ONH) in patients with intracranial saccular aneurysms.
  • To compare ONH microvascular indices between patients and healthy controls.
  • To assess changes in unilateral cases compared to contralateral eyes.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective study comparing 16 patients with intracranial aneurysms (Group 1) to 16 age-matched controls (Group 2).
  • Ophthalmic evaluations included visual acuity, refraction, and cranial nerve function.
  • OCTA was used to assess ONH microvascular density and thickness.

  • No significant differences in ONH microvascular indices were found between patients and controls (p>0.05).

  • Larger studies are required to confirm these findings and explore anatomical variations.
