Abstract:
A straightforward and efficient method for the synthesis of cyclopenta[b]tetralines via copper-catalyzed bi-cyclization of α,β-unsaturated arylketones with α-allyl-α-bromocarbonyls has been reported. The reaction proceeds via a C-centered radical-triggered 5-exo-trig/6-endo-trig cyclization cascade and offers a new and practical method for the assembly of 6/6/5 carbocyclic skeletons.

Alkynes to Aldehydes and Ketones: Hydroboration-Oxidation
One of the convenient methods for the preparation of aldehydes and ketones is via hydration of alkynes. Hydroboration-oxidation of alkynes is an indirect hydration reaction in which an alkyne is treated with borane followed by oxidation with alkaline peroxide to form an enol that rapidly converts into an aldehyde or a ketone. Terminal alkynes form aldehydes, whereas internal alkynes give ketones as the final product.
