Low blood levels of the thyroid hormones — triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) — signal the hypothalamus to release the thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). TRH then reaches the pituitary gland and stimulates the release of thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH) into the bloodstream.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the utility of multi-parametric MRI in assessing Hashimoto's thyroiditis progression.
  • To investigate the impact of dietary management on Hashimoto's thyroiditis using MRI and serological markers.
  • To establish MRI as a quantitative tool for monitoring autoimmune thyroid disease.

Main Methods:

  • 40 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were randomized into intervention (dietary management) and control groups.
  • Multi-parametric MRI, including T2-weighted imaging relative signal intensity (T2WI RSI) and water fraction, was performed at baseline and 6 months.
  • Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) levels were measured concurrently.
