    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the accuracy of different methods for calculating blood oxygen content.
    • To evaluate the reliability of estimating oxygen content from haemoglobin concentration, oxygen saturation, and oxygen tension.

    Main Methods:

    • Comparison of calculated oxygen content (from haemoglobin, saturation, and tension) against three other methods.
    • Inclusion of Van Slyke and Zander direct methods, and a method using Kelman's equation.
    • Statistical analysis using correlation coefficients (r) and residual standard deviation (So).

    • The Van Slyke method showed imprecision.
    • The Zander method provided oxygen content values comparable to those derived from measured saturation (r=0.9919).

    • Measurement of haemoglobin oxygen saturation is a necessary prerequisite for accurate blood oxygen content estimation currently.
    • Reliance on oxygen tension alone for calculating oxygen content is not recommended due to imprecision.
