Objective:
To explore pelvic radius (PR) parameters' average values in healthy Chinese adults and to establish the relationship between pelvic morphology (PRS1) and lumbar sagittal morphometric parameters.
Methods:
235 asymptomatic Han Chinese adults were recruited from January to June 2024. Lateral radiographs' parameters like PRS1, total lumbar pelvic lordosis (PRT12), regional lumbar pelvic lordosis (PRL1-PRL5), lumbar lordosis (LL), the apex of lumbar lordosis (LLA), the upper arc of lumbar lordosis (LLUA), the lower arc of lumbar lordosis (LLLA), and the inflection point (IP) were assessed. The research compared differences in PR parameters across genders, ages, and ethnicities. Pearson correlations were calculated, and linear regression analysis was performed to establish the relationship between PRS1 and lumbar sagittal plane morphology parameters.
Results:
PRS1, PRT12, PRL1, and PRL2 averages were 38.3°, 94.4°, 95.3°, and 91.4°, respectively, higher than Caucasians. PRL3 and PRL4 were similar (83.2° and 71.3°, respectively), but PRL5 was lower (52.4°). LL, LLLA, and LLUA averages were -52.5°, -38.1°, and -14.4°, respectively. LLA was at L4 (15.9 ± 0.9) and IP at L1 (12.9 ± 0.8). Males had higher PR parameters. No age correlation was found for LL, LLUA, LLLA, IP, LLA, or PR parameters. PRS1 correlated with PRT12, PRL1-PRL5, LLLA, IP, LL, and LLA, but not LLUA. Regression models showed significant associations between PRS1 and IP, LLA, LLLA, and LL.
Conclusions:
PR parameters in healthy Chinese adults differ from those in Caucasian populations and vary by sex but remain stable with age. PRS1 is closely related to lumbar pelvic lordosis and lumbar spine sagittal morphology, providing a basis for future studies.

Bone Disorders
Bone deposition is also affected by the levels of sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone that promote osteoblast activity and bone matrix synthesis. When the level of these hormones decreases due to aging, it causes a reduction in bone deposition. As a result, bone resorption by osteoclasts...
Changes in the Appendicular Skeleton with Age
Initially, the limb buds consist of a core of mesenchyme covered by a layer of ectoderm. The ectoderm at the end of the limb bud thickens to form a narrow crest called the apical ectodermal ridge. This ridge stimulates the underlying...

Components of the Skeletal System
Bone, or osseous tissue, is a hard connective tissue that forms an internal support structure for the human body. Bones shield vulnerable organs and soft tissue from external forces. For example, the vertebral bones protect and support the spinal cord.
Cartilage, a semi-rigid connective tissue found in regions such as...
