Introduction:
Cancer continues to pose a significant challenge in the field of medicine, demanding innovative approaches and novel therapeutic avenues for effective treatment. Within this landscape, the exploration of natural compounds derived from marine organisms has garnered attention for their potential anti-cancer properties.
Aim:
Our present study aims to evaluate the pharmacological effect of Aplidium species in terms of anti-cancer properties which are assessed through biochemical methods.
Materials And Methods:
The sample was collected from the Thiruchender coastal areas. It was then washed and extracted with methanol which then was used for biological screening against two cancer strains, namely, MCF-7 (Breast cancer cell line) and A2780 (Ovarian Cancer cell line).
Conclusion:
Alpidium sp extract has significant anticancer effect against two different cancer cell lines when compared to standard drugs.
Insights
Marine-derived Aplidium species show significant anti-cancer effects against breast and ovarian cancer cell lines. This natural compound offers a promising alternative to standard cancer treatments.
Area of Science:
- Marine Biology
- Pharmacology
- Oncology
Background:
- Cancer presents a significant medical challenge, driving the search for novel therapeutic strategies.
- Marine organisms are increasingly recognized as a source of natural compounds with potential anti-cancer activities.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the anti-cancer pharmacological effects of Aplidium species.
- To assess the efficacy of marine-derived compounds against specific cancer cell lines.
Main Methods:
- Aplidium species were collected from coastal areas and extracted using methanol.
- The methanolic extract was biologically screened against MCF-7 (breast cancer) and A2780 (ovarian cancer) cell lines.
Main Results:
- The Aplidium sp. extract demonstrated a significant anti-cancer effect on both tested cancer cell lines.
- The observed efficacy of the extract was notable when compared to standard anti-cancer drugs.
Conclusions:
- Aplidium species possess potent anti-cancer properties.
