Crashworthiness simulation dataset of re-entrant crash box with combined in-plane and out-of-plane filling structure

Abstract:
This article presents a dataset generated from finite element simulations of square aluminum crash box with various re-entrant infill structures. The configurations include in-plane, out-of-plane and combined in-plane and out-of-plane geometries. Simulations were conducted under axial compression using ANSYS, where a constant displacement was applied to the upper plate while the lower plate was fixed. The objective was to evaluate the deformation behavior and crashworthiness performance of each structural configuration under compressive loading. The resulting dataset includes numerical values of crashworthiness indicators: total energy absorption (EA), specific energy absorption (SEA), peak crushing force (PCF), mean crushing force (MCF) and crushing force efficiency (CFE). Force-displacement data were recorded throughout the crushing process. and the deformation shapes were exported for each configuration. This dataset serves as a reference for analyzing crashworthiness in re-entrant structured crash box and can support further investigations on the crashworthiness of lightweight structural components.
