Mitral valve repair using the Physio Flex Annuloplasty Ring effectively controlled mitral regurgitation in 185 patients. Early outcomes were satisfactory, with a low rate of residual regurgitation and acceptable incidence of functional mitral stenosis.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Surgery
- Cardiac Surgery
- Medical Devices
Background:
- Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a significant valvular heart disease.
- Effective mitral valve (MV) repair is crucial for improving patient outcomes.
- Annuloplasty rings are commonly used to support MV repair.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate early clinical and echocardiographic outcomes of mitral valve repair using the Physio Flex Annuloplasty Ring.
- To assess the efficacy of the Physio Flex Annuloplasty Ring in various etiologies of mitral regurgitation.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective analysis of 185 patients undergoing MV repair with Physio Flex Annuloplasty Ring (July 2020 - October 2024).
- Patients had degenerative or functional MR, with severe or moderate regurgitation.
- Surgical techniques included artificial chordal reconstruction, leaflet resection, folding plasty, and ring annuloplasty alone.
Main Results:
- The operative mortality rate was 2.2%.
- Postoperative no/trivial or mild MR was observed in 97.3% of patients.
- Significant reductions in left ventricular dimensions and right ventricular systolic pressure were noted (P < 0.001).
- Functional mitral stenosis occurred in 13 patients.
Conclusions:
- Mitral valve repair with the Physio Flex Annuloplasty Ring demonstrates effective MR control.
- Satisfactory early clinical and echocardiographic outcomes were achieved.
- The incidence of functional mitral stenosis is acceptable.
