Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between healthcare workers' attitudes toward trauma-informed care and burnout.

  • A voluntary, cross-sectional, online survey was administered to 233 staff members in an urban academic health system.
  • Data collected included demographics, trauma knowledge, preparedness, Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Care (ARTIC-10), worries about aggression, and burnout.
  • Surveys were completed between April 2019 and March 2020.

Main Results:

  • Worrying about workplace aggression was associated with a nearly twofold increase in the odds of burnout.
  • More positive attitudes toward trauma-informed care were linked to lower odds of burnout.
  • The association between aggression worries and burnout was independent of TIC attitudes.

Conclusions:

  • Trauma-informed care may help reduce burnout risk in healthcare professionals.
  • Addressing workplace safety and violence reduction is essential for comprehensive burnout mitigation strategies.
  • Further research into TIC's role in healthcare worker well-being is warranted.
