Abstract:
Undoubtedly solvents are crucial for the facilitation of any reaction, so, the meticulous role of solvents cannot be ruled out though they are not directly involved in the reaction itself. Concerns have been raised in the field of chemical processing since hazardous and combustible solvents are utilized in enormous quantities daily. All living organisms are prone to exposure to hazardous solvents, which leads to the destruction of most vital organs and the deterioration of health. Large volumes of organic and aromatic solvents, such as benzene, toluene, and chlorinated solvents, as well as solvents like acetone, Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and Dimethyl formamide (DMF), are still used despite their contribution to environmental deterioration, ecological degradation, and detrimental health effects. The target of the field of "green chemistry," which combines chemistry and chemical engineering, is to create products and procedures that use as little or no harmful materials as possible. Environmentally conscious concerns should be incorporated into the definition of the performance of products, feedstocks, and manufacturing processes to embrace the principles of green chemistry and green engineering. Sustainable chemistry, sometimes known as "green chemistry," is the design, production, and application of safe, effective, efficient, and ecologically friendly chemical processes and products. To create green imperishable chemical products, this article illuminates the usage of safer chemicals such as water, supercritical CO2, polyethylene glycol, fluorous biphasic solvent, and ionic liquids. Examples of chemical reactions in safer solvents are accounted for in this article. Lastly, it emphasizes the characteristics of safer solvents and encourages their operation to ensure the safety of the environment and to overcome health hazards.
