Treatment with Electroacupuncture and Neural Therapy in Secondary Peripheral Facial Paralysis: A Case Report

Background:
Peripheral facial paralysis is clinically characterized by complete facial paralysis of the ipsilateral hemiface, which is accompanied by loss of the corneal reflex, and depending on the level, can affect tear secretion, salivation, taste, and cause auditory alterations.
Objective:
To report the results obtained from joint management with electroacupuncture and neural therapy in two cases of patients who developed peripheral facial paralysis secondary to neurosurgical procedures.
Materials And Methods:
Two clinical cases of patients with secondary facial paralysis are presented, which were treated jointly with electroacupuncture and neural therapy.
Results:
The degree of facial motor dysfunction of the patients improved from severe to mild, quantified using the House-Brackmann scale.
Conclusions:
Joint management using neural therapy and electroacupuncture represents a relevant treatment alternative in patients with secondary facial paralysis.
