Summary

A late inferior hip dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA) occurred in a patient following a fall. Revision surgery with a constrained acetabular liner ultimately achieved stability, highlighting the need for patient compliance.

Background:

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common procedure for hip joint issues.
While generally successful, complications like dislocation can occur, albeit rarely.

Observation:

A 59-year-old female experienced a late inferior hip dislocation post-THA due to a fall.
Initial revision surgery was complicated by patient noncompliance, leading to recurrent dislocation.

Findings:

Closed reduction attempts failed for the incarcerated inferior prosthetic dislocation.
A constrained acetabular liner was successfully used in a subsequent revision surgery, achieving THA stability.

Implications:

This case highlights the challenges in managing inferior hip dislocations after THA.
Patient adherence to post-operative care is crucial for preventing complications.
Constrained liners may be effective in revision THA for instability, but long-term outcomes require further study.
