We developed a sustainable reaction of difluoroenoxysilanes with either methyl 2-formylbenzoate or 2-formylbenzoic acid in aqueous media. This protocol leverages dual hydrogen-bonding and phase-separation properties of water, allowing for the generation of a variety of 3-difluoroalkyl phthalides without the use of organic solvents and purification through precipitation separation on a gram-scale.
