Neanderthals, hypercarnivores, and maggots: Insights from stable nitrogen isotopes.

Neanderthal diets may appear high in meat due to consuming maggots in decaying food. These fly larvae (maggots) significantly increase nitrogen isotope ratios (δ15N), impacting dietary reconstructions.
