[Funding year 2024/2025: overview of new DGU fellowships]

In the funding period 2024/2025, the German Society of Urology (DGU) continues its commitment to fostering scientific talent by awarding additional Ferdinand Eisenberger Research Fellowships and, for the first time, the newly established Manfred Wirth Fellowship. Both programs offer urologists a one-year leave from clinical duties to conduct independent research at leading national (Eisenberger) or international (Wirth) research institutions. The goal is to enhance scientific skills, develop novel research areas, and build sustainable-and increasingly international-research networks. Six promising projects in translational oncology, imaging, molecular diagnostics, and AI-based surgery were selected for funding through a competitive peer-review process. The fellowships aim to transfer acquired expertise back into clinical practice and strengthen research capacities at home institutions. With this initiative, the DGU continues to position itself as a key driver of academic urology in Germany.
