Abstract:
Herein, we report the design and synthesis of new thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivatives as anticancer and antimicrobial agents using both conventional and microwave irradiation methods. The compound structures were characterized using different spectral analyses, for example, infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), carbon-13 NMR (13C NMR), mass spectroscopy, and elemental analyses. Among all the synthesized scaffolds, compounds 6a and 6 h exhibit significant activity against the MCF-7 cell line with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration value of 12.11 ± 2.9 and 15.82 ± 10.1 µM, respectively. In addition to that, compound 6k showed potent antibacterial activity, and compound 6l showed good antifungal activity. Furthermore, molecular docking studies were conducted to explore the interactions between the synthesized compounds and the Topoisomerase II enzyme. Higher yields, less reaction time, minimal purification, and a simple procedure are the advantages of this method.
