    Background:

    • Conventional radiography requires significant mineral loss (≥30%) for visible bone changes, delaying early detection of radiation-induced mandibular abnormalities.
    • Radiation therapy for head and neck cancers can cause vascular and cellular changes in mandibular bone, which are difficult to detect early using standard imaging.
    • Morphometry offers a potential method for earlier detection of these subtle bone alterations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of morphometry in detecting early radiographic changes in mandibular bone during radiation therapy.
    • To assess the nature and reversibility of bone abnormalities induced by therapeutic radiation doses in the mandible.

    • Nineteen patients undergoing radiation therapy for oral or pharyngeal malignancies without mandibular metastases were studied.
