Porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) combined with resorbable magnesium screws effectively augments peri-implant soft tissue. This minimally invasive technique shows favorable short-term results for tissue volume and esthetics.
Area of Science:
- Periodontology
- Dental Implantology
- Biomaterials Science
Background:
- Adequate soft tissue thickness and keratinized mucosa are crucial for peri-implant health and aesthetics.
- Porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) shows potential for soft tissue augmentation, but fixation is challenging.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy of PADM fixed with resorbable magnesium screws for peri-implant soft tissue augmentation.
Main Methods:
- A case series involving three patients undergoing peri-implant soft tissue augmentation.
- PADM grafts were stabilized using resorbable magnesium screws (NOVAMag®).
- Clinical outcomes were assessed over 3-6 months via STL imaging and direct measurements.
Main Results:
- All patients demonstrated improved mucosal volume and keratinization.
- Mean vertical soft tissue increase was 0.87 ± 0.16 mm; mean horizontal increase was 1.00 ± 0.13 mm.
- Mucosal thickness increased from 1.0-1.2 mm to 1.9-2.1 mm, with an average 1.0 mm gain in keratinized mucosa width.
Conclusions:
- PADM with resorbable magnesium screws provides a predictable, minimally invasive solution for peri-implant soft tissue enhancement.
- Favorable short-term volumetric and esthetic outcomes were observed.
- No complications were reported, with tension-free healing achieved in all cases.
