Reactivity of the Sulfur-Based Space Molecules CS2, COS, and HNCS in Superacidic Media

Abstract:
The sulfur-based heteroallenes COS, CS2, and KSCN were investigated in binary superacidic media HF/L (L = BF3, AsF5, or SbF5) in order to isolate and characterize the protonated species, which are present in interstellar media. Surprisingly, the isolation of single-crystal analysis revealed cyclization reactions instead of protonated monomers. The cycloaddition products were characterized by low-temperature vibrational nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and discussed together with quantum chemical calculations.
