An optical sensor array based on viologen derivatives for bacterial identification was developed. This array enabled the identification of different bacteria, different concentrations of bacteria as well as mixed bacteria. Additionally, in the analysis of real samples, such as bacteria in tap water, in lake water and in milk, the designed array demonstrated excellent recognition ability.
