Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the epidemiology of CrossFit training practitioners in Portugal.
  • To identify injury prevalence and associated risk factors.

  • A self-reported questionnaire was distributed to 288 CrossFit practitioners.
  • Statistical analyses included Mann-Whitney U, chi-square, Spearman's rho, and logistic regressions.

Main Results:

  • 39.9% of practitioners reported injuries, mainly during gymnastics.
  • Tendon (40.9%) and shoulder (46.1%) injuries were most common.
  • Risk factors: male gender (OR=2.7), 4-6 years of practice (OR=7.22), higher body weight (OR=4.76), and 4-6 weekly sessions.

Conclusions:

  • Around 40% of CrossFit practitioners experience injuries, particularly shoulder and tendon.
  • Injury risk is linked to practice duration, training frequency, sex, and body weight.
  • Findings aid in understanding risk factors and developing injury prevention strategies.
